Each Regional Arts Australia National Conferences adopts the shape and personality of its host community. This is as true for where delegates stay and the way they get from A to B as it is for the conference program and venues.
We think that attending Kumuwuki / Big Wave gives our delegates the best excuse for adding another beach holiday to their calendar. Of course, with over 750 delegates expected to converge on Goolwa for the conference, not everyone will fit within the town itself. Thankfully the Alexandrina region is one of South Australia’s leading coastal tourist destinations, leaving delegates spoilt for choice when it comes to holiday accommodation in the nearby coastal towns of Middleton, Pt Elliot and Victor Harbor and on Hindmarsh Island.
Accommodation on offer includes holiday houses, B&Bs, guest houses, motels, camping grounds, farm stay, and, if you decide to stay in nearby Victor Harbor, you can even go for the traditional hotel room. Whatever your budget there is an abode to suit.
If you search online booking services, you’ll see there is still an enormous amount of accommodation available within Goolwa and surrounding towns, including Victor Harbor, which is easy to get to and from via the Kumuwuki Town Shuttle.

Visit the ‘Where to Stay’ section of the Visit Alexandrina website for accommodation in Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot, Hindmarsh Island, Currency Creek and other towns in the Alexandrina region.
Please note, accommodation within Goolwa through the Visitor Centre is nearly full - so if you are looking to stay in the central Kumuwki town, try booking online. But if you are after high quality and personalised service and don’t mind driving or jumping on the Kumuwuki Shuttle, then the Visitor Centre can find the right place for you.
Here’s one more incentive to consider a holiday house. You could find your accommodation featured as part of the artistic program. Local SA Architect Steve Grieve presents McMansions - Shacks, Fries and a Coke a purely subjective bus tour of Goolwa’s architectural wonders and you never know your chosen accommodation could be part of it.

One of the highlights of the Regional Arts Australia National Conferences is the opportunity get to know other people working in the arts across the country. So if you don’t already know a lot of people, you could consider looking for someone to share a holiday house with. Once you’ve registered for Kumuwki / Big Wave, you can take advantage of the delegate networking functionality of the fabulous website Freerange Future have built us, to search for other delegates who tag themselves with ‘holiday house’. And don’t forget to tag yourself too!
It is the responsibility of delegates to organise their groups, ensure they pay the correct fee with the Real Estate agent, and make sure they are careful about who they stay with.
If you are booking a holiday house, you may need to organise linen.

To help you get from where you are staying to the conference itself, we’ll be running a shuttle bus that is free for delegates every morning, early evening and late evening through the four towns of Goolwa, Middleton, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor. There will also be bicycles available for hire. If you stay in Middleton or Pt Elliot, you might like to take a leisurely cycle along the pleasantly flat Encounter Bikeway to counteract ingestion of too much delicious conference food and contribute to Kumuwuki’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
